🌟 Thursday Provider Spotlight: Meet Mike Slaughter! 🌟

This week, we're introducing Mike Slaughter, one of our dedicated counselors at MVA Health Centers! With more than 25 years of experience, Mike has helped individuals navigate addiction, anxiety, depression, grief, OCD, and other life challenges. He also provides suicide prevention trainings throughout West Virginia and primarily uses a cognitive-behavioral approach influenced by the principles of ancient Stoic philosophy.

💙 Why did you choose your specialty?
"I chose to become a counselor because I experienced some difficult things early in life and was fortunate enough to have caring adults who listened to me and had a huge positive impact on my life. I wanted to pass that on and help others."

😊 What's your favorite part of working at MVA Health Centers?
"The camaraderie among the team. It helps so much to be able to joke around with colleagues."

🌱 What do you hope every patient feels after leaving your office?
"I hope each patient leaves feeling a little lighter—like they've been heard, understood, and have more confidence to face and overcome the challenges waiting for them outside."

🎸 What's something people might be surprised to learn about you?
"I've become a bit of a metalhead! I've always loved music, but lately I've been blasting Metallica and Megadeth. I also recently discovered Iron Maiden, and I'm planning to see them in concert this fall!"

We're proud to have Mike on the MVA Health Centers team and grateful for the compassion, experience, and support he provides to our patients every day.

🦠 Know the Signs of Cyclospora

At the MVA, we're here to help you stay healthy and informed. Cyclospora is a microscopic parasite that can cause prolonged diarrhea and other digestive symptoms, often from contaminated food or water.

Common symptoms may include:
• Diarrhea
• Stomach cramps
• Nausea or bloating
• Fatigue
• Low-grade fever
• Weight loss

If you're experiencing ongoing digestive symptoms, don't wait to seek care. Our primary care providers can evaluate your symptoms, determine the next steps, and help you get the care you need.

You can also reduce your risk by:
✔️ Washing fresh fruits and vegetables thoroughly
✔️ Practicing good hand hygiene
✔️ Drinking treated or bottled water when traveling
✔️ Following safe food handling practices

📞 To schedule an appointment, call 304-366-0700 or visit mvahealth.org.
